Momordica grosvenori is the fruit of a perennial vine in the Cucurbitaceae family. Known as the "fruit of the gods", with heart-shaped, dioecious leaves, flowers in summer and fruits in autumn. It has a long history of cultivation in Yongfu and Longsheng counties, where it has been cultivated for more than 300 years, and in Longsheng County for more than 200 years. 90% of China's Momordica grosvenori is produced in Yongfu and Longsheng counties. It is one of the first medicinal and food ingredients approved by the state, and its main effect is to stop coughing and dissolve phlegm. The fruit has a high nutritional value and is rich in vitamin C (400mg to 500mg per 100g of fresh fruit) as well as glycosides, fructose, glucose, protein, lipids, etc.

Momordica grosvenori is sweet and cool in nature, and belongs to the lung and large intestine meridians. It has the effect of moistening the lung and relieving cough, generating fluid and quenching thirst, and is suitable for coughs caused by lung heat or lung dryness, whooping cough and thirst due to summer heat, as well as laxative effect.

Nutritional composition

The fruit and leaves of Momordica grosvenori contain Momordica grosvenori triterpene saponins, as well as a large amount of fructose, more than ten kinds of essential amino acids, fatty acids, flavonoids, vitamin C, trace elements and so on. Momordica grosvenori saponin, the main component of Momordica grosvenori Sweetener, is a triterpene glucoside with a sweet taste and its ligand glycosidic elements are triterpene alcohols.

Cucurbitane triterpenoids These compounds are the main active ingredients in Momordica grosvenori and they have a common glycosidic structure. All but a few of these substances in Momordica grosvenori are sweet substances or slightly sweet substances. Among them Momordica grosvenori glucoside V is the main sweet component, it is non-toxic, low calorie, high sweetness, good heat stability and is one of the substances developed as a natural sweetener.

Protein and amino acids the dried fruit of Momordica grosvenori contains 7.1%-7.8% protein. In its hydrolysate, the 18 amino acids are complete, except for tryptophan, which was not determined. Among the amino acids measured, the higher levels were glutamic acid (108.2-113.3mg/kg), aspartic acid (93.9-112.5mg/kg), valine (52.5-55.5mg/kg), alanine (49.9-66.8mg/kg) and leucine (48.5-56.7mg/kg). Glutamic acid is the most required non-essential amino acid in the human body and is an important raw material for the synthesis of glutathione, which shows that momordica grosvenori has a high nutritional value.

Inorganic elements the fruit of momordica grosvenori contains 24 inorganic elements, of which there are 16 essential trace elements and a wide range of elements, with high contents of potassium (12,290mg/kg), calcium (667mg/kg) and magnesium (550mg/kg). The selenium contained in momordica grosvenori reaches 0.186mg/kg, which is 2 times-4 times more than grain, and the element selenium has good efficacy in coronary heart disease prevention, anti-ageing and anti-cancer.
